Licenses Terms

DotArtisan License Terms

Last Updated: December 13, 2025

1. Introduction

These DotArtisan License Terms ("License Terms") define the rights you receive when you purchase a digital product (an "Item") from our marketplace. Each Item is available under either a Regular License or an Extended License. The license type you purchase is clearly shown during checkout and on your invoice.

These terms apply in addition to our general Terms of Use. The author (seller) of the Item grants you the license, and DotArtisan facilitates the transaction. The author is responsible for their Item's functionality and support.

2. Definitions

  • "Item" or "Product": The digital file or files (e.g., code, script, plugin, theme, template, graphic) you purchase and download from DotArtisan.
  • "End Product": A customized, functional application, website, or other work you create that incorporates the Item.
  • "End User": A user of your final End Product (e.g., a visitor to your website, a customer of your application). They are not licensed to use the Item separately.
  • "Author": The seller who created and sells the Item on DotArtisan.

3. Regular License

The Regular License is for use in a single End Product that is free or monetized (e.g., through ads, subscriptions) where the primary revenue is not based on the Item itself.

You are allowed to:
  • Use the Item to create one single End Product for yourself or a client.
  • Modify the Item to suit your needs within the End Product.
  • Distribute the Item as part of the End Product to unlimited End Users.
You are NOT allowed to:
  • Use the Item in more than one End Product.
  • Re-distribute the Item as stock, in a tool, or with source files. The Item must be part of a larger, value-added End Product.
  • Re-sell the Item, its source files, or any modification of it on any marketplace, including DotArtisan.
  • Use the Item in an End Product that allows an End User to extract the Item for reuse (e.g., a "website builder" where items can be saved as templates).
  • Use the Item in a product made available on a "freemium" model where the core value is the Item itself.
Example (Allowed):

You buy a WordPress plugin. You customize it and use it on your client's membership website. The client pays you for building the site, not for the plugin directly.

4. Extended License

The Extended License grants all rights under the Regular License, but for use in one End Product that is sold to multiple users (e.g., a SaaS application, app template, "software-as-a-service").

You are allowed to:

Everything permitted under the Regular License.

Use the Item to create one End Product that is sold to multiple users (e.g., a web application template sold to multiple customers, a white-label app).

You are still NOT allowed to:

Re-distribute the Item as stock, in a tool, or with source files where the primary value is the Item itself.

Re-sell the Item, its source files, or any modification of it on any marketplace.

Use the Item in more than one End Product. A separate Extended License is required for each unique End Product.

Example (Allowed):

You buy an admin dashboard template. You use it as the core interface for a customer analytics SaaS platform that you charge 1000+ users to access. You need one Extended License.

6. Important Common Terms (Apply to Both Licenses)

  • Non-Exclusive & Worldwide: The license is non-exclusive and applies worldwide.
  • Lifetime & Perpetual: The license is valid for the lifetime of the End Product.
  • Item Ownership: The Author retains all copyright and ownership of the original Item. You only receive the usage rights specified here.
  • Support & Updates: Support and future updates are provided by the Item's Author at their discretion, as stated on the Item's sales page.
  • Liability: The Item is provided "as is." DotArtisan and the Author are not liable for any damages resulting from its use.
  • Termination: If you breach this license, your rights are automatically terminated. You must then stop using the Item and destroy any copies.

7. How to Purchase the Correct License

  1. Evaluate your intended use against the terms above.
  2. Select the appropriate license (Regular or Extended) during checkout on the Item's page.
  3. Your chosen license type will be recorded on your invoice and in your account's download section.

If you realize you need a different license after purchase, you must buy the correct license. Refunds are generally not granted for buying the wrong license type (see our Refund Policy).

8. Questions and Violations

  • For questions about a specific Item's functionality or compatibility, contact the Item's Author via their DotArtisan support channel.
  • To report a suspected license violation (e.g., finding an Item re-sold on another site), contact us via our contact form.
